Technicians (Lights / Sound)
Technicians make sure that the lights and sound work properly for each performance. Most theatre companies will bring their own technicians--light and sound personnel--and so the tech's job is mainly to help acquaint the visiting tech staff with the various technical features of the peformance space and give assistance where needed.
We are looking for technical staff who have some experience working in a theatre because you will be working around electrical equipment--and safety is our highest concern. Also, techs need good communication and people skills, as you will be working closely with the companies and helping them solve various technical issues.
Tech duties include:
- Assisting companies get in and get out of the space.
- Working closely with the Theatre Manager.
- Making sure that lights and sound equipment are returned to their original (neutral) setting in between productions.
- Being "on call" during the shift in case any technical problems arise during a performance.
- On occasion you may be asked to tech a show. There are special arrangements that have to be made in advance between the theatre company and the Theatre Manager.
